We are happy to introduce you to Strike, one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet. He’s living proof that just because a dog needs training, doesn’t mean they’re anything less than amazing.
Strike came into our care in early January 2024, estimated to be a 2-year-old American bully/retriever mix weighing around 60 lbs. The shelter environment can be scary for many dogs, with predictable fears upon arrival — the unfamiliar noises, vaccinations, other dogs, and new faces. However, Strike surprised us with a fear we hadn’t anticipated: a deep terror of being confined in a kennel.
For the first few weeks, Strike wasn’t available for adoption. Instead, he underwent some intense training with our team to help him conquer his fears. Our main goal? To make sure Strike felt comfy in a kennel and got to enjoy all the fun dog stuff like walks and playtime.
Strike’s a big dog with an even bigger bark and an unknown past, so we took things slow. We gradually introduced him to kennel routines, taught him to stay on his bed, introduced him to new walking equipment and many new people. Through it all, we learned that Strike is very smart! He picked up new tricks like a pro, all while munching on treats and soaking up praise.
Once he aced his training, Strike moved to our adoption floor and joined off-leash playgroups. And he’s thriving! Within a week, he became the social butterfly of the shelter. Strike’s all about running, jumping, and cuddling up with anyone who’ll give him a scratch behind the ears.
After a few foster breaks, we discovered Strike’s a total homebody. He’s happiest when he’s on daily walks, playing in the yard or making new furry pals. Plus, he’s great in the car and loves a good swim at the Metroparks.
At the shelter, Strike’s top dog. He spends his mornings goofing off with his doggy pals, soaking up the sun, and hanging out with his best bud, Hank.
We might not know Strike’s past, but we’re certain his future’s bright. He’s ready to find his forever family and become the best furry friend they’ve ever had.
We’d recommend Strike to just about anyone. He’s got a heart of gold and adores every human he meets, especially children. He’s a cuddle bug through and through, craving lap time and hugs galore.
Strike’s looking for a home with kids aged 10 and up (because he’s a big boy) and no pets under 35 lbs. If you believe in second chances and endless cuddles, come meet Strike!
