Revere: The Dog Who Stole Our Hearts – Still Waiting for His Forever Home

RevereYou may recall that Revere was featured in our March e-newsletter, and unfortunately, he’s still waiting for his forever family. Since then, Revere returned from his foster break a few weeks ago—and he’s been the same amazing boy we all know and love. Calm, collected, sweet and a long-standing favorite; he’s remained the best boy. Revere keeps a clean kennel, enjoys his blankets and absolutely loves every person he meets.

Some dogs leave an impression that lasts forever—Revere is one of those dogs. His calm demeanor, gentle spirit and kind soul have earned him a special place in the hearts of every staff member and volunteer who meets him. After facing so many challenges, he’s still the same lovable, sweet boy. Now, he’s waiting for the family who will finally give him the forever home he deserves.

Revere’s Journey So Far

Revere, a 5-year-old, 70-pound Boxer mix, was found in May 2024, wandering the Metroparks in terrible condition. He was dangerously underweight, and X-rays revealed a fractured right femur. He needed time to heal before surgery could even be considered, but that was just the beginning. He developed a head tilt, and his inner ear infections were so severe that both of his eardrums ruptured.

Despite the odds, Revere proved just how resilient he is. Months of treatment helped him heal, and while the head tilt remains, it doesn’t cause him pain—it’s simply part of his unique charm. His fractured femur healed on its own, and what was once thought to require amputation no longer hinders him. Today, Revere is healthy, happy, and full of life.

A Foster Home Favorite

Revere has been back in a foster home with a mother and her two young sons (ages 7-10), and he’s been nothing short of wonderful. His foster family describes him as:

  • 🐾 Housebroken & Polite – He’s well-behaved and clean in the house.
  • 🐾 Loyal & Affectionate – He loves being around his people and is perfectly content with some alone time.
  • 🐾 Gentle & Patient – Especially with children, who he adores.
  • 🐾 Playful & Curious – His leg doesn’t slow him down—he even gets zoomies!
  • 🐾 Quiet but Expressive – He only barks when it truly counts.
  • 🐾 Low-Maintenance – He loves baths and even enjoys a coconut oil massage.
  • 🐾 A Good Eater (with encouragement) – He prefers a little company while he eats.

The Home Revere Deserves

Revere will thrive as the only pet in the home, where he can shower all his love on his family. While he requires no ongoing medical care, a neurologist or orthopedic specialist could provide additional insight into his head tilt and past injury—but for Revere, it’s just part of his journey. His heart is full, and he’s excited for his next chapter.

Revere has overcome so much, and now all he needs is a family to call his own. If you’re looking for a dog with a heart as big as his story, Revere is waiting for you.

Please note that as of June 30, 2025, Revere is still looking for a permanent home but is not currently living at the shelter; he is in a foster home. However, meet and greets can be arranged if you are interested in meeting Revere.
